When a bearded dragon waves it is seen as a sign of submission. Waving is typical behaviour displayed by a female bearded dragon in response to a male head bobbing, when a male head bobs and a female does not respond with a wave the male will perceive this as a threat and there is a chance a fight will ensue. Waving when kept solitary is very rare for an owner to witness as the dragon is responding to something

Waving.

It is interpreting as a threat. Not a lot is known about this behaviour by experts as the mind of a bearded dragon is quite complex. It is believed by some that, although they have ears they are in-fact deaf and that is why they communicate using sign language. This theory makes sense as they are incapable of making any noise so what would be the point of having ears that works.
